This disorder affects the genital and perianal areas most often. It is found most commonly amongst young girls or women over the age of 50, but anyone of any age may develop lichen sclerosis.
WHAT IS IT?
Lichen sclerosis is a result of an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body’s own immune system attacks healthy tissues and cells – and in this case specifically, the skin of the genital and perianal areas.
