Lichen Sclerosis

Lichen sclerosis can be embarrassing, troublesome and annoying. But this chronic skin disorder can be helped with our non-invasive Regenerative Cellular Therapy.

This disorder affects the genital and perianal areas most often. It is found most commonly amongst young girls or women over the age of 50, but anyone of any age may develop lichen sclerosis.

WHAT IS IT?

Lichen sclerosis is a result of an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body’s own immune system attacks healthy tissues and cells – and in this case specifically, the skin of the genital and perianal areas.

LICHEN SCLEROSIS CAUSES

The initial cause of relapsing lichen sclerosis is not fully understood. But, the following factors may play some role in its development:

  • Genetics
  • Hormones
  • Irritants
  • Viral infections

Common symptoms of lichen sclerosis may vary with severity in discomfort and pain; such symptoms include:

  • Smooth white spots on the skin
  • Susceptibility to bruising and tearing
  • Itching
  • Wrinkled patches
  • Painful or uncomfortable sexual intercourse

LICHEN SCLEROSIS RISKS

The greatest risk of having lichen sclerosis is the development of vulval, penile or anal cancer. You can prevent this risk by tending and managing your lichen sclerosis as soon as you start seeing symptoms.
