Patient Testimonials

Dr. Small has a wonderful bedside manor. He communicates on a level that the patient understands. He treated me with such patience, concern, and respect when I was in a great deal of pain. He referred me to a great pain management physician and even though he referred me to someone else he still stopped by to see me at the hospital. He believes surgery is the last resort. The facility he sent me to was convenient and very nice with caring employees.

3 years post surgery:

Prior to surgery I had severe low back pain that radiated down into my left foot. The pain was a 7-8 all the time. Dr. Small performed a laminectomy and flexible fusion of my lower back. Dr. Small’s surgery on my back has almost completely eliminated my back pain and dramatically reduced the pain in my left foot and leg. My Dad was a doctor with the Memorial Hermann system for over 45 years. When it became obvious that I would need surgery to help reduce my pain, Dad told me to see Dr. Small. Dr. Small (Henry) consulted with me over multiple visits and suggested that I have ESIs, which I did. Unfortunately they did not bring me significant pain relief. After additional consultation we decided to undergo surgery to perform a laminectomy and flexible fusion on the lower vertebra. The surgery was very physically challenging to undergo and rehab from. The pain and discomfort were very difficult but Dr. Small had coached me that the surgery was significant and my problems were substantial. However, Dr. Small also told me that over time I would be better and my pain would subside. I began my rehabilitation right away and was walking the day after surgery. Over time my back healed and as it did, my pain level diminished to a point where I no longer needed pain medication. For the first time in over 6 years I was able to live my life without pain. I was able to travel, exercise and enjoy recreation free of the terrible leg pain that had engulfed my life over the years before. Dr. Small and his skillful knife had performed a miracle and gave me my life back. My pain level was very low, my back did not hurt, my family was happy to have me around again because my attitude was great. I left misery and pain! Thank you Dr. Small.
